After High School I spent two summers working at Wildwood, a Presbyterian summer camp outside Cincinnati, OH. This was my first experience serving in ministry and is one the I remember fondly and cite as one of the life changing experiences that eventually led me to ministry.
After a year of college I temporarily left my studies to pursue a career in management. I worked for a couple of different movie theaters and eventually found employment with a software retailer. In the years I worked with them I was promoted from Associate Manger to Store Manager of one of the company's more profitable locations, and then moved to Lexington, KY to open a new location. It was in Lexington while working with the Youth Group at Second Presbyterian Church that Dawn and I became aware God was calling us to some sort of ministry. Dawn was feeling a call to pastoral service, and we have always felt this was a call for our family. Around this time I returned to school to finish my Bachelors. I continued to work in retail, then call center customer service, and eventually as a restaurant server. Upon graduation from NKU I started working as a restaurant manager. I started at the seminary when I recognized that continuing to seek satisfaction in a management career was not beneficial for a family and discerned it was not God’s plan for me.
I resisted God’s call for many years but since starting at LPTS and living into it, I have received nothing but blessings. Attending a summer seminar at the Children’s Defense Fund inspires me to a ministry of social justice for the children in our communities. My year church placement at PeWee Valley Presbyterian church helped me discern my role as teaching elder. I did a summer Clinical Pastoral Education unit at Norton / Kosair Children’s Hospital. As I chaplain I provided on call pastoral care for both the traditional adult hospital and the children’s hospital. Kosair Children’s Hospital is a level one trauma emergency room and chaplain’s are a part of the emergency response team. CPE helped me understand myself, my Call, and gave me experiences with families and patients from 1 day old to 100 years old.
Post graduation I was blessed to serve full time with the United Methodist Church. I served in the same capacity as a full time pastor providing Spirit Guided Worship, Pastoral Care, Bible Study leadership, and involvement with ecumenical ministerial councils. Through these relationships I was able to share the Good News in worship with three congregations, four assisted care facilities, three summer Vacation Bible Schools, and spiritual devotions that air on local AM radio. I was able to actively participate in community food pantry and ministry to members of the community in need. While serving at the UMC parish I simultaneously completed all the requirements to search for a validated Call in the PCUSA that would allow me to fully live into the ministry God has called me to, as a fully ordained clergy person.
I have been blessed to find a ministry that actively engages God’s children of all ages, is active in mission, and celebrates the Faith, Service, and Fellowship of the church formed at Pentecost at Unity Presbyterian Church in Terre Haute, IN. I was ordained and installed on August 2nd, 2015 by a commission of the Presbytery of the Ohio Valley.
